Boas transformed into the primary instructor of humanities at Columbia University in 1899, following three years as an educator in the field. He was instrumental in developing the school's human sciences division, which transformed into the principal Ph.D. program in the discipline in the U.S.

Instead of overwhelming viewpoints during that period, Boas came to have confidence somewhat through his hands-on work that all friendly orders were basically the same.
