Read the excerpt from “Tools of the Spymaster."

The numbers that Major Tallmadge assigned to members of the Culper Ring were from a secret writing system he invented. He substituted digits for words that would be used in messages. "Long Island," for example, was 728, "arms" was 7, and "city" was 88. There was a number for each month, such as 341 for "January." He made four copies of his codes. He kept one and gave the others to Woodhull, Townsend, and General Washington. For words that did not have a number code, Tallmadge gave his agents a cipher. In a cipher, each letter in a message is replaced by another letter or a number.

The author’s purpose in this excerpt is to

A)teach readers about a code system used during the American Revolution.
B)persuade readers that ciphers are the greatest American invention.
C)argue that Major Tallmadge made a mistake in sharing copies of his codes.
D)compare the American codes for secret letters to the British codes.

The west was hot geranium red;
And still, and still,
Along old lanes the locusts sow
With clustered pearls the Maytimes know,
Deep in the crimson afterglow,
We heard the homeward cattle low,
And then the far-off, far-off woe
Of "whippoorwill!" of "whippoorwill!"

II.

Beneath the idle beechen boughs
We heard the far bells of the cows
Come slowly jangling towards the house;
And still, and still,
Beyond the light that would not die
Out of the scarlet-haunted sky;
Beyond the evening-star's white eye
Of glittering chalcedony,
Drained out of dusk the plaintive cry
Of "whippoorwill," of "whippoorwill."

And in the city oft, when swims
The pale moon o'er the smoke that dims
Its disc, I dream of wildwood limbs;
And still, and still,

Mid ferns and flowers that dewdrops rope,
Lost in faint deeps of heliotrope
Above the clover-sweetened slope,
Retreat, despairing, past all hope,
The whippoorwill, the whippoorwill.

Sam must struggle to make a living in the forest, knowing that not only his immediate survival depends on it, but also that winter is approaching and that if he does not make adequate preparations, he will perish.

What do you mean by Evidence?

Any form of proof presented to the Court to demonstrate the existence or nonexistence of a fact is referred to as evidence.

Considering his entire adventure, I'd say Sam has a good working relationship with nature. He exists in harmony with nature, owing primarily to Sam's refusal to see nature as an antagonist. Sam is aware that nature can provide him with everything he requires for survival, but he is also aware that nature can be quite dangerous. Unfortunately, Sam learns some harsh lessons about nature's ability to make his life miserable.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

other maintenance fees. One government study estimated that electric-car drivers will save over 40 percent in annual maintenance fees.

One of the biggest arguments against electric cars has been their limited range. Electric cars do have a shorter range, but that range is plenty for most drivers. The majority of American drivers travel less than 35 miles a day, and the average electric car has a range of about 100 miles on a full charge. Charging the car at home each night will provide enough power for daily driving and allow drivers to save time by avoiding stops at the gas station. And, as the number of electric cars on the road increases, more businesses and employers will install charging stations for their customers and employees, which will make charging a vehicle even easier.

An electric car may not be for everyone, but they have evolved beyond their original restrictions. With a purchase price that is comparable to a gas car, and reduced fuel and maintenance fees, anyone who is purchasing a new car should seriously consider an electric car.

The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in US history. It began in 1929 and did not abate until the end of the 1930s.

The stock market crash of October 1929 signaled the beginning of the Great Depression. By 1933, unemployment was at 25 percent and more than 5,000 banks had gone out of business.

Although President Herbert Hoover attempted to spark growth in the economy through measures like the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, these measures did little to solve the crisis.

Franklin Roosevelt was elected president in November 1932. Inaugurated as president in March 1933, Roosevelt’s New Deal offered a new approach to the Great Depression.

The inference that we should make is that humans are killing or driving away the lions from their settlements. The correct option is d.

What do you understand by inference?

Inference can be understood as the steps in reasoning, moving from premises to logical consequences; etymologically, the word infer means to carry forward. Inference is theoretically traditionally divided into deduction and induction, a distinction that in Europe dates at least to Aristotle.

The deduction is inference deriving logical conclusions from premises known or assumed to be true, with the laws of valid inference being studied in logic. Induction is an inference from particular evidence to a universal conclusion. A third type of inference is sometimes distinguished, notably by Charles Sanders Peirce, contradistinguished abduction from induction. Various fields study how inference is done in practice. The human inference is traditionally studied within the fields of logic, argumentation studies, and cognitive psychology.

Statistical inference uses mathematics to conclude the presence of uncertainty.

What’s for Lunch?

Marcia Amidon Lusted

Zachary Maxwell was tired of trying to explain to his parents why he wanted to bring lunch to school instead of eating hot lunch. They couldn’t understand why he didn’t want to eat the gourmet food described on the school’s online menu, which sounded both nutritious and interesting. Zachary just couldn’t convince them that the food wasn’t as great as it sounded. So in the fall of 2011, he began sneaking a small video camera into the cafeteria at his school, to show his parents what the lunches were really like. Six months and 75 school lunches later, Zachary made a documentary film about his lunch called Yuck: A 4th Grader’s Short Documentary About School Lunch.

A year or so ago my father, my brother, and I went on a trip to point Reyes.( in California) we have to travel through a few towns and in one of towns at a Walgreens there was a large amount of ducks and Chickens wandering around the area. It was quite the sight. We then have to drive through some forestry areas to get to point Reyes. The road was dirt and only one way. Most of the time in the left side of the road it was a sheer drop. It was a bit scary but also gorgeous. It was nothing compared when we finally made it to point Reyes. It was a light house. It wasn’t open at the time but we went anyways. The sight of the ocean was absolutely breathtaking. It was a sheer drop at the end of the lighthouse and with this fenced off area so you can look at the ocean. It was extremely windy and the ocean was pounding at the rocky cliffs below. It was the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.

Books blanketed every inch of space, floor to ceiling, creating a colorful patchwork. In the corners were cozy reading nooks occupied by earnest readers.
