The Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I, imposed heavy penalties on Germany, leading to widespread poverty and economic instability which helped fuel the rise of Hitler and his aggressive policies. The failure of appeasement policies, where countries such as Britain and France tried to avoid confrontation with aggressive regimes, allowed these regimes to continue their expansion without consequence. Was the Mexican War an Exercise in American Imperialism?
Answer:
Yes, it was
Explanation:
The entire goal of manifest destiny was so America could expand westwards. As a result, they had two large territorial ambitions. One was to take all or most of Oregon Country, the other was to expand into Mexico. That was the whole point of Manifest Destiny, which was basically American Imperialism as its finest. It was what caused the purchase of Louisiana, and many people didn't gain benefit from this, such as the Native Americans, which is similar to European Colonialism and Imperialism, with the native population often suffering and not getting that much in return.
While the situation in Oregon led to tensions that almost caused a war over a pig, the Mexican American war was a war that mainly started over Texas. Texas had originally been a part of Mexico, but after numerous factors, including widespread immigration to Texas from parts of the US, Texas would declare independence on March 2, 1836, and claimed large amounts of territory that included present day New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. Mexico however claimed most of this territory still, only giving Texas territory in present day Eastern Texas. This dispute would eventually get caught in the hands of America, when America annexed Texas. This caused the Texan-Mexican dispute to become an American-Mexican dispute, and America quickly went to war with it, taking all of the present day American west. This is what caused Mexico to spiral out of control later on.
Which statement about evolution is true?a. Natural selection causes good mutations for the benefit of the species.b. The life span of an individual determines its fitness.c. Natural selection is a random event affecting different expressed characters equally.d. Organisms which are better and more complex are always more evolved.e. Only populations evolve, individual organisms do not.
"Only populations evolve, individual organisms do not" is the true statement about evolution because Individual organisms remain unchanged over time and populations evolve with time. The correct answer is E.
Individual organisms do not change throughout time. Individuals change over time. Due to individual variation within a population, some members of the population are more likely to live and procreate under a specific set of environmental conditions. The majority of these individuals live longer and have more children, passing on their beneficial features to the following generation. The population shifts throughout time.
It is essential to think of populations as a collection of individuals, each of whom possesses a unique set of qualities, in order to comprehend evolution. Unless there is no variation within a population, no single creature can be said to represent the entire population. Individual creatures do not evolve; rather, they always carry the same set of genes.
Each individual organism within a population remains the same while the ratio of various genetic types changes during population evolution. For instance, the number of black moths increased in the previous example; they did not all change simultaneously from light to gray to dark.

Sharecropping was like "slavery by another name" for recently freed individuals, many of whom worked the same land, resided in the same homes, and was directly supervised by the same overseers. A sharecropping agreement on Cameron lands demonstrates the inherent injustice of the system.

Answer:

Explanation:
The primary form of political organisation in the ancient Greek world was the polis (pl. poleis), which is usually translated as ‘city-state’, although this can be slightly misleading because a) most Greek poleis were more like villages than cities by our standards, with populations numbering in the thousands rather than the hundreds of thousands, and b) we tend to think of the state as something standing above its citizens, whereas to the Greeks, the polis literally was its citizens (politai): ancient Greek writers like Thucydides didn’t write about ‘Athens’ going to war, they wrote about ‘the Athenians’ going to war. Some modern scholars have even suggested ‘citizen-state’ as an alternative translation of polis. Aristotle famously wrote that man* is a ‘political animal’ (Politics 1253a), a politikon zoon, with politikon being an adjective related to polis which in this context means something like ‘one who lives in a polis’ rather than ‘political’ in English. Living in a polis (and this did not necessarily mean within the city’s walls, since each polis had a rural hinterland) was seen as an essential part of human existence: the polis was not just a city and a state, but the fundamental element of human society, the basic unit of civilisation. At home, a Greek’s sense of communal belonging was reinforced by participation in politics, and participation in civic religion – each polis would have its own unique cults and festivals in honour of its gods. Abroad, a Greek would identify himself by reference to his home polis (e.g. ‘Xenophon the Athenian’); it was thus the most important ethnic identifier. If his polis went to war, he would be expected to fight and possibly die for it – the ultimate honour.
So if a Greek was exiled from his polis, not only was he physically expelled from his home city, he was severed from his primary identity, his primary way of defining his place in the world. It’s perhaps comparable to excommunication in the Middle Ages, or to the practice of ‘shunning’ used by some modern religious movements to expel transgressors from the community. Nevertheless, exile was a very common phenomenon. Internal political conflicts occurred frequently, and often a losing political group would find itself exiled by the winners. Voluntary migration was very common, too, the difference of course being that these migrants had the option of returning, whereas those exiled as a punishment generally did not, although there are occasions when political exiles were given amnesties, such as in 324 BC when Alexander the Great decreed that all exiles should be allowed to return home to their respective poleis (whether Alexander had the authority to do this, and whether it was actually obeyed, is another question).

1. The Land Ordinance of 1785 was the national constitution created by the
13-member committee appointed by the Second Continental Congress.
Answer:The Land Ordinance of 1785 was adopted by the United States Congress of the Confederation on May 20, 1785. It set up a standardized system whereby settlers could purchase title to farmland in the undeveloped west. Congress at the time did not have the power to raise revenue by direct taxation, so land sales provided an important revenue stream. The Ordinance set up a survey system that eventually covered over three-quarters of the area of the continental United States.[1]The earlier Land Ordinance of 1784 was a resolution written by Thomas Jefferson calling for Congress to take action. The land west of the Appalachian Mountains, north of the Ohio River and east of the Mississippi River was to be divided into ten separate states.[2] However, the 1784 resolution did not define the mechanism by which the land would become states, or how the territories would be governed or settled before they became states. The Ordinance of 1785 put the 1784 resolution in operation by providing a mechanism for selling and settling the land,[3] while the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 addressed political needs.

1. He was concerned about a French-Polish alliance, so he signed a non-aggression pact with Poland.
2. He secretly met with the ruler of France to create a non-aggression pact in exchange for British lands.
Answer:
Allied powers, also called Allies, those countries allied in opposition to the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey) in World War I or to the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) in World War II.
The major Allied powers in World War I were Great Britain (and the British Empire), France, and the Russian Empire, formally linked by the Treaty of London of September 5, 1914. Other countries that had been, or came to be, allied by treaty to one or more of those powers were also called Allies: Portugal and Japan by treaty with Britain; Italy by the Treaty of London of April 26, 1915, with all three powers. Other countries—including the United States after its entry on April 6, 1917—that were arrayed against the Central Powers were called “Associated Powers,” not Allied powers; U.S. Pres. Woodrow Wilson emphasized that distinction to preserve America’s free hand. The Treaty of Versailles (June 28, 1919) concluding the war listed 27 “Allied and Associated Powers”: Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, the British Empire, China, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Ecuador, France, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, the Hejaz, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Liberia, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serb-Croat-Slovene State, Siam, the United States, and Uruguay.

After the conclusion of World War I, Germany was held responsible for the damages caused by the war and was forced to pay reparations. The Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, determined that Germany would pay 132 billion gold marks, or $33 billion, as a form of reparations to the Allied Powers.

How did the court justify its ruling in the case of New York v Quarles?
The court justify its ruling in the case of New York vs Quarles by stating the officer's actions were reasonable under the circumstances and that the gun was admissible as evidence against Quarles.
Specifically, the court held that the officer's actions were justified by the "exigent circumstances" exception to the warrant requirement of the Fourth Amendment. The Court noted that the officer had a reasonable belief that Quarles was armed and dangerous, and that the officer's actions were necessary to protect the public safety and prevent the destruction of evidence. The Court also noted that the officer's actions were limited in scope and intrusiveness, as the officer only conducted a pat-down search for weapons and did not engage in a more extensive search of Quarles's person or belongings. The Court also acknowledged that the officer's discovery of the gun was a result of Quarles’ voluntary response to the officer's question, and that the officer had no prior knowledge of the gun's location, hence it was not subject to suppression under the "fruit of the poisonous tree" doctrine. In summary, the court ruled that the officer's actions were reasonable under the circumstances, and that the exigent circumstances of the situation, the officer's belief that Quarles was armed and dangerous and the need to protect public safety and prevent the destruction of evidence, justified the warrantless search and seizure of the gun as evidence against Quarles.

Millions of Europeans moved to the US where they drove the growth of cities and manned the rapid industrialization that was taking place. In the western US many, many Chinese immigrants arrived to work on the railroad and in mines. As is often the case in the United States, the people who already lived in the US reacted kind of badly to this flood of immigrants. Some legislators tried to stem the flow of new arrivals, with mixed success. Grover Cleveland vetoed a general ban on immigration, but the leadership at the time did manage to get together to pass an anti-Chinese immigration law. Immigrants did win some important Supreme Court decisions upholding their rights, but in many ways, immigrants were treated as second-class citizens. At the same time, the country was rapidly urbanizing. Cities were growing rapidly and industrial technology was developing new wonders all the time. John will cover all this upheaval and change, and hearken back to a time when racial profiling did in fact boil down to analyzing the side of someone's face.
Answer:
In the late 19th century, many Europeans and Chinese immigrants moved to the United States, where they helped to drive the growth of cities and industrialization. However, many Americans did not welcome these immigrants, and some legislators tried to limit their numbers. Despite some Supreme Court decisions protecting the rights of immigrants, many were still treated as second-class citizens. At the same time, the US was undergoing rapid urbanization and technological advancements. This period of history was marked by a lot of change and upheaval, including racial profiling of immigrants.
