Where does an autotroph get its energy for food?
What is a heterotroph?
Where does an heterotroph get its energy for food?
Give an example of both of autotroph and heterotroph.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Autotrophs are an organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide.

Most autotrophs make their "food" through photosynthesis using the energy of the sun.

Hetrotrophs an organism deriving its nutritional requirements from complex organic substances.

Heterotrophs eats other plants or animals for energy and nutrients cannot make their own food, so they must eat or absorb it.

Plants, algae, and some types of bacteria are autotrophs.

Dogs, birds, fish, and humans are all examples of heterotrophs.

How Did the Egyptians Build the Pyramids?

The pyramids of Egypt are amazing examples of human imagination. Built over 4,500 years ago, the pyramids served as proof of the power of the men who built them.

The first pyramids started out as rectangular tombs called mastabas. Mastabas were flat-roofed structures with sloped sides. The pyramid of the pharaoh Djoser started off as a mastaba but gradually turned into a 197-foot structure with six “steps” and a three-and-a-half-mile underground labyrinth.

It wasn’t until much later that the kind of smooth-faced pyramids we’re used to seeing were constructed. The Great Pyramid in Giza is an excellent example of this. Today, it is considered one of the “Seven Ancient Wonders of the World.”

Much is known about the pyramids, but one thing remains a mystery. How did ancient people with little understanding of modern engineering and no modern construction machines build them?

PLANNING

The modern way in which the ancient Egyptians organized the construction of pyramids was impressive. High-ranking officials were chosen to plan and manage pyramid-building projects. They were responsible for building the main structure as well as the temples, boat-pits, and other buildings surrounding them.

Undertaking such a massive colossal task required a huge workforce. In this case, as many as 20,000 skilled laborers worked to build the pyramids. Tens of thousands of workers required enormous resources, such as a place to live during the construction. Important officials were often in large homes, but the workers usually slept in simple conditions around the construction site. The workers needed protection from enemies and, possibly, each other, so construction managers also had to build barracks for troops.

Of course, everyone associated with the project needed to eat. Cutting, hauling, and stacking the stones that the pyramids were made from took a lot of strength and energy. Researchers discovered that animals were brought to the construction sites to feed workers around 4,000 pounds of meat a day. This led the researchers to believe that it was likely the workers ate better on the job than they did back at home.

GATHERING MATERIALS

Once the plans were made, the supply chain created, and the workforce assembled, the construction of the pyramids began. Alabaster was usually used to create floors, statues, tiles, and vases. Limestone was used on the outside of the pyramids. Both materials had to be imported to the construction site.

This stage began with quarrying and shipping massive slabs of stone. A team from the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology discovered a unique ramp system for removing stone blocks from an alabaster quarry in the Eastern Desert. The ancient Egyptians put the stone on a sled and attached the sled to wooden posts. To reduce friction, they poured water on the sand. Using these methods, they were able to pull giant rocks up the steep slopes of the quarry.

Stones were gathered from many areas and shipped by boat to a port near the construction site. The ports themselves were their own grand construction achievement. In a harbor near the Great Pyramid, Egyptologist Pierre Tallet discovered a pier that was built around 4,600 years ago. He and his team found over 100 anchors and thirty giant caves built into the mountain that were used for storing Egyptian boats. The existence of these deep caves, called galleries, allowed boats carrying stone and other supplies to be safely docked. Before the pyramids were even built, the Egyptians were performing amazing feats of engineering.

CONSTRUCTION

The actual construction of the pyramids has baffled historians for years. Each stone weighed approximately 2.5 tons. The Great Pyramid weighed approximately 5,750,000 tons. A draft horse can pull four tons on its own and approximately twelve tons when working with another horse. For a more modern comparison, a pickup truck can pull about eight tons on its own.

But the ancient Egyptians didn’t use horses, and they certainly didn’t have pickup trucks.

How did the ancient Egyptians haul over five million tons up hundreds of feet?

Perhaps they used systems of ramps, ropes, and plain, old-fashioned elbow grease, much like the systems they used to remove stones from their quarries. Maybe they used ramps that went straight up the sides or ramps that curved around the walls. There is no consensus. The real method remains a mystery.

According to Kara Cooney, a professor of Egyptian art and architecture, this is exactly what the ancient Egyptians wanted. It increases the sense of awe and wonder, proving the amazing power of the rulers who built them.

The world is host to thousands of types of plants, but their numbers are decreasing year by year. More than 60,000 species of plants are
endangered. As this knowledge became widespread, efforts to save them began. One method of doing this is through the establishment of seed
banks. Although seed banks have existed for almost a century, today these banks are receiving more attention. They are designed to keep the seeds
in an environment that will keep them safe for hundreds of years, available for research and for restoring plant species. Plants are vital to human
life in many ways, so having these seed banks is like buying an insurance policy.
Safeguarding plants, both the wild ones and the agricultural, is vital. Unlike the buried pirates' gold in Treasure Island, the seed banks hold a
wealth that cannot be measured. They guarantee humanity the ability to continue living. They hold the future of the planet.
How does the phrase "unlike the buried pirates' gold in Treasure Island reflect the tone of the author's conclusion?
O 1. It echoes the longing of humanity for wealth.
2. It emphasizes the author's reverence for the seeds.
3. It echoes the author's relief that the seeds are hidden.
04. It emphasizes the idea that the seeds have monetary value.

Answers

Answer: 2. It emphasizes the author's reverence for the seeds.

Explanation:

Buried pirate gold or any gold for that matter, is very valuable and the author acknowledges this fact. The author however goes on to say that the value of seed banks cannot be measured unlike gold which can.

This shows that to the author, seed banks are much more valuable than pirate gold which means that the author attaches great reverence to seed banks and by comparing them to seed banks, this reverence is made more apparent.

Answer: C. People often have the option to get to work by riding either the subway or public buses. Which choice is better for commuters,  traffic, and the environment? Explain the pros and cons of each method of transportation.

Explanation:

A compare-and-contrast structure is used when there are different notions to be compared to find out which would be a relatively better notion for the issue at hand. It works by juxtaposing the premises of the notions as well as their advantages and disadvantages.

The issue of whether people should take the subway or public buses would be best discussed using this type of structure because it would give the pros and cons of each type of transport thereby allowing the reader to make an informed decision about which would work best for them.

Democrats promises to protect civil rights of blacks were not at the end of the federal interference

The main reason for the end of reconstruction in the south was the creation of the Compromise of 1877.

We can arrive at this answer because:

The Compromise of 1877 was created at the end of the 1877 presidential election. In that election, candidate Samuel J. Tilden won by popular vote but received a minority of the Electoral College votes, which went mostly to Rutherford B. Hayes, who was Republican and in favor of reconstruction. In this case, Rutherford B. Hayes was elected, but Tilden was not satisfied, as were many voters who felt his votes were considered insignificant to national policy. This generated a strong political discussion, which ended when the Democratic and Republican parties decided that Hayes would be president, but he would withdraw the Union troops from the southern territories.

This agreement was the Compromise of 1877 and was what finalized the reconstruction of the south.

What is the relationship between Senator George W. Norris and the date of the inauguration?

A: Norris wanted to change the date of the inauguration because he believed it was unfair.

B: Norris wanted to give more power to the lame-duck Congress before the inauguration.

C: Norris wanted to move back the date of the inauguration to give the new president more time to plan.

D: Norris wanted to move the date of the inauguration so that it happened the day after the election.

Answers

Answer: A: Norris wanted to change the date of the inauguration because he believed it was unfair.

Explanation:

Norris considered the long lame-duck period as unfair because it allowed outgoing congress members to sign laws despite a new administration having been elected.

Norris´ initiative was aimed to avoid the lame-duck Congress before the inauguration, not to empower it. The time for a new president to plan before the inauguration was already established before the amendment, and was actually considered too long for that historical time. The date of the inauguration was moved from March 4 to January 20, not to the day after the election, as that wouldn´t be enough even today.
